From Starve-and-Binge Loops to a Smooth, Consistent Routine: Jen Blalock's Path to Lasting Food Freedom

Two years ago, Jen Blalock’s relationship with food was broken.

“I would eat pizza and feel guilty and then punish myself with another workout,” Jen explained.

Other times, she would starve herself before vacations or work trips, and then binge and come home 10 pounds heavier.

At one point, Jen started tracking her macros using My Fitness Pal, but it made her anxious and stressed out, “and it was such a time waster,” said the 47-year-old from North Carolina.

“And I wasn’t making as much progress as I wanted,” said Jen, who was consistently working out five times a week.

Jen wanted a life where food wasn’t associated with anxiety and guilt.

She was ready to try a new approach, and when she stumbled across CBG on Instagram, she was intrigued.

Jen signed up right away. To start, Coach Amanda Jeffrey wanted to focus on her goals. She wanted to lose weight, but she had another list she wanted to accomplish:

  • To not feel bad about eating things like pizza or a burger
  • To be able to enjoy eating on vacation and not feel guilty about it
  • To not be afraid of carbs
  • To balance alcohol and sweets
  • To eat more balanced meals

Jen Today

After working with CBG Coach Amanda Jeffrey for two years, Jen barely recognizes the person she used to be.

Currently, Jen is down 15 pounds and no longer starves herself before workouts, vacations or work trips.

“I actually pre-fuel properly so my strength has gone up and I have gained a lot of muscle,” she said.

But that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Today, Jen is no longer afraid of carbs, she no longer binges on vacations, and she can officially eat pizza guilt-free.

“That was probably one of the biggest things for me. I can finally enjoy life and enjoy food without restricting everything. It has been liberating.”

With her new mindset, her approach to food and nutrition has not been as stressful as it was before Coach Jeffrey. “It’s a lot easier to make good decisions most of the time,” Jen explained.

“I have cut out a lot of alcohol, because one of the things I learned through CBG was that you don’t have to have an all or nothing mindset. So sometimes I’ll either have a glass of wine or these sweet potatoes, and most of the time I choose the carbs over the alcohol,” she said.

Best of all, she doesn’t need to weigh or measure her food or spend time putting everything she eats in an app.

And although Jen feels like she has the confidence and tools to be able to continue living and eating this way on her own, she’s sticking with Coach Jeffrey for now.

“[Coach Jeffrey] really helps me with my mindset and it keeps me accountable and on track. There’s something about having to report to someone that helps,” Jen confessed.

Coach Jeffrey keeps her accountable in an empathetic way.

“I like her positivity and her encouragement. I think that’s one of the reasons why I have been so successful, because I beat myself up enough already. I don’t need my coach to add to it,” she said.

Jen added: “I don’t know what it is about the CBG method, but it definitely works. It’s an investment, but it’s worth it. It has given me freedom to be able to live life.”
