Rewriting Her Health Story at 40
Six years have passed since Amy Romero was a CBG client. But the impact of her time with Coach and Founder Justin Romaire still echoes in every part of her daily life today.
Prior to finding CBG in 2018 and becoming one of Coach Romaine’s first CBG clients, Romero had been diagnosed with hypothyroidism. This obstacle made weight loss feel impossible, no matter how clean she ate or how consistently she trained.
She tried counting calories, logging every gram in MyFitnessPal, and tightening up her workouts. Still, nothing worked.
“I had no idea what was going on,” said Romero, now 46.
Finding Answers with CBG, Not Just Numbers
When Romero began working with Coach Romaire, the two quickly uncovered something she wasn’t able to figure out on her own: her body wasn’t handling dairy well.
So Romero laid off cheese and milk and began implementing the CBG blueprint approach. Within the first three months, she dropped 25 pounds.
After that, even as her formal check-ins slowed down, she kept applying what she learned. She lost another 20 pounds, keeping the weight off for the last six years.
As Romero’s nutrition improved, so did her performance numbers. At 40, she was hitting 200-pound cleans and 300-pound back squats.
More importantly, Romero’s relationship with food transformed completely and is still in a great place today.
“I know what I need to eat and what I need to stay away from and for the most part, I eat what I want,” she said.
Today, Romero eats cleanly without feeling restricted, and feels like she still gets a lot of variety in her meals.
Breakfast used to always be rice and kale with some kind of protein, but lately she’s enjoying ham wraps. And on weekends, she still lets herself have the bacon, eggs and biscuits - guilt-free.
Dinner almost always includes a salad with a solid portion of protein, but she also doesn’t shy away from going out here and there. And when she does, it no longer requires bringing a calculator or a portable food scale.
“Who wants to count calories while you’re in a restaurant?” she asked rhetorically.
Ultimately, eating well is stress-free, easy, and requires little to no thinking, thanks to what Coach Romaire taught her all those years ago.
Why Romero Recommends CBG
For Romero, CBG is about so much more than the blueprint. It’s about the tools she was given that continue to work for her life today.
But what she remembers most is the relationship she forged with her coach.
“The coaches care. They’re always checking in to make sure you’re OK…And they’re really willing to work with you based on what you’re looking for,” Romero said, adding that she still messages Coach Romaire to share wins, updates, or milestones.
Her biggest takeaway?
At 40 years old, she was able to rewrite her health story, something she wasn’t sure was possible.
“Anything is possible, especially with the right structure and people in your corner making sure you have everything you need,” she said.
She added: “No matter what we go through in life - whether it be emotional, physical, spiritual - having a good relationship with food is important; and that’s what [Coach] Justin did for me.”
